Description:

We will be parking at Gold Lake snow park. We will be crossing Hyw 58 instead of going directly into Gold Lake we will leave the trail at the sign that indicates the trail into Marilyn Lakes. We will pass by Marilyn Lake and will come out at Gold Lake. I am planning on lunch at Gold Lake shelter. We will return to the cars via the Gold Lake road. Depending on weather and snow conditions we could be breaking trail part or all of the way. If for some reason the snow melts away I will substitute a hike.

Trip Report

I took this trip over on short notice because the original trip leader (Jane Hackett) became ill and instead of canceling the trip, she asked me to lead it. So, on a clear and warm day, we hiked from the sno-park to the Gold Lake access road. There we put on our snowshoes and started hiking up the road on a 3-4 foot packed snow base. We took the first trail junction to left which routed us between Upper and Lower Marilyn Lakes. We continued on to the Gold Lake shelter where we stopped for lunch. Being a Monday, no one was at the shelter or on any of the trails. After lunch, we took the short trail down to Gold Lake. We returned on the access road as the temperature climbed to 50 degrees. Overall, about a 5.5 mile trip on firm packed, crusty snow that made snowshoeing very easy. We had a new first-timer out with us (Jean Harris) who had no problem at all.
