  • End date: 06/21/2018

  • End time: 11:59 PM

Description:

NOTE time change as of June 7th. The parking lot will be crowded. Look for us by my car a row or two down from the fee box. Sunset is 8:59pm. I plan to take trail 17 and 4 to catch the main trail to the summit. Our goal is to view the rays of the sunset shining through the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal. We will take the main trail (#1) back to the parking lot.
Optional to bring snacks. For more about the pedestal, see the sculptor's website, Peter Helzer. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions. If you don’t have a Lane County pass allow time to purchase one with Debit/Credit card (no cash) at the pay station by trailhead. To buy an annual pass and support the trails, check out the websites for Friends of the Buford Park ($50.00) or Mt. Pisgah Arboretum. ($50.00/$40.00 for seniors).

Trip Report

Dave Lodeesen, Marguerite Henry, and Jane Hackett helped lead most of the ten guests and eight members up trail 7 and 4 to the main trail. I suggested to the last minute arrivals that we hike up the main traiI to intersect with the others. We all made it to the top in time to view the rays of the sun shine though the Sighting Pedestal. It was the first time for some to hike up Pisgah. The guests heard about the hike through friends, Obsidian website, and poster on Obsidian Facebook. Perhaps two start times would have make it easier for the leader. I appreciated the members who reached out to welcome the guests.
