Description:

This is a multi-pitch trad climb meaning we will place protection as we go and then rappel from the top. The climb is located in northern California and is on solid granite. Those signing up for the trip will need advanced rock climbing skills including climbing vertical rock (rated 5.6), belaying a lead climber and rappelling. We will be leaving Eugene around 4 PM on Friday, drive down and camping at Castle Rock state park, then get up at 4:30 AM to climb.

  • Supplies and Equipment Required: You will need a harness, helmet, personal anchor system, rock shoes, belay-rappel device, 3 locking carabiners and a small day pack. We will be carrying our gear up and over the climb so make sure you have a light weight pack. You will also need 2 liters of water for the climb, lunch and snacks. You will also need camping gear and breakfast for the day of the climb.

Trip Report

This was suppose to be a climb of Mount Hubris, but due to the fires in California, Castle Crags State Park was closed. We re-directed to Acker Rock in southern Oregon. After 4 pitches of climbing it began to rain. While we do need rain, having it while climbing is problematic. We waited for awhile hoping it would stop but it did not and the rock became very slippery. Luckily we were in a spot where we could rappel off and safely made it to the ground.
