Description:

Pamelia Lake is a Limited Access Area. The lake is only 2.25 miles from the trailhead and it's not much farther to the PCT and a great view of Mount Jefferson. You'll have the option of hanging out at the lake or going to the PCT and Milk Creek for that view. In 2006 part of the Milk Creek Glacier broke off from Mount Jefferson and sent a 4-foot deep mud flow race down the creek drainage. It took out trees, moved boulders, and buried vegetation. Evidence of this event is notable along some sections of the trail. Milk and Pamelia Creeks altered their courses and sections of the trail had to be rebuilt.

For those that would like a view of Jefferson, we can add on another half mile and go on up to where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses Milk Creek.

Trip Report

A pleasant day on a beautiful trail. Water was a major feature of the hike. First, we enjoyed hiking along the creek and even when it was a little out of sight we were still accompanied by the sound of the tumbling stream. After lunch at the lake, the younger members of our group decide to wade into the lake. They reported that it was a little cold. The adults were content to sit on the beached logs at the lake's edge and take in the view of Mt Jefferson. Three of us decided to head up the trail to the intersection with the PCT. We'd hoped for a better view of Jefferson but clouds had moved in near the peak. We returned and one of our group decided to take a swim. The kids decided to go back in the water and join in the swimming. In the water or relaxing in the sun we all had a fun time.
