Kalapuya Talking Stones Walk

  • Start date: 05/25/2018

  • Start time: 12:00 AM

  • End date: 05/25/2018

  • End time: 11:59 PM

Description:

Departure Location: Alton Baker Park main parking area, middle of the eastern lot, by the disc golf hut.
Our walk will visit 15 talking stones that dot Eugene and Springfield's Whilamut Natural Area. Our outbound trip will include areas near the Canoe Canal, and our inbound walk will cover the area near the river trail. This will be a moderate pace. The plan is to return to our cars between 5:30pm & 5:45pm as to get an early start on a long Memorial Day weekend. Wear layered clothes as needed and bring water.

The Talking Stones were designed to serve as educational and cultural reference points, as well as being beautiful art objects. The 15 stones reintroduce words of the Kalapuya language.
