Description:

We begin the hike off of the Waldo Rd at the Fuji Mt. Trail. The trail passes Birthday Lake where we will take a snack stop. From Birthday Lake we continue to the South Waldo Trail jct. passing Verde Lake on the way. Fuji mountain is a steady climb to the top where we will take in the views of Waldo Lake and the surrounding Mountains. Lunch will be eaten on the top to give us more time to enjoy the views. The return will be along the same trail. If weather is poor we can hike to Upper Island lake to the Mt. Ray Trail and back on the Gold Lake Trail thus avoiding the more exposed Fuji Mt. The pace will be moderate with rest stops.

Trip Report

The Fuji Mt. hike exceeded our expectations. The skies were a little hazy when we began the hike but became clearer as we climbed upward towards blue sky. Looking over the blue waters of Waldo Lake there was some haze but all landmarks were visible. We had the top of the mountain to ourselves but did pass 3 other people as we descended. The thought of smoke probably kept people away including 12 Obsidian's that had shown interest in the hike but withdrew leaving Dave, Margeurite and Lyndell to head to the top of Fuji on our own. We reached the top at 12 noon and descended by 3 with a moderate pace. The day was finished with an early supper and a brew at the Cedar Creek Cafe in Oakridge.
