Trip Report

The Lodge was warm and colorful with the decorated tables and the smell of hot apple cider when fifty people arrived asking “Where do I put my socks?’ The pile of socks grew until there were 150 pairs for the Egan Warming Centers. Dorene Steggell, Jane Hackett, and Chris Shuraleff helped lead the hiking groups. Joella Ewing and others decorated the tables and kept the soups warm until the hikers returned for lunch. Shirley Froyd was honored for her watercolor paintings displayed in the Scherer Room. It was a group effort to wash the dishes and clean the lodge. Joella and Clara Emlen took the leftover food to the homeless camp at 34th and Hilyard. A few days later on a cold and rainy evening, Joella and I delivered six Obsidian shopping bags filled with wool socks to the Egan Memorial Candlelight vigil held where Major Egan died ten years ago. We thank everyone for their generosity to make the fifth annual Stocking Stuffer so special.
