Description:

North Trail Head parking lot off Main Street East of Springfield. You will see the entrance on the right just past Springfield Memorial Cemetery.

The hike will use the new trail system built by Willamalane Park & Recreation District and Community Trails not on the published trail maps. We will hike one direction and have several cars at the trail end for car pooling back to the trail head.

Trip Report

The day began with Janet and Jane stopping at my house to caravan to the end of the trail location. My husband Michael transported us to the East Trail Head of the Thurston Hills Natural Area Trail System. We had 13 hikers and a few drizzle clouds to keep us cool. After hiking the Mossy Maple Trail we spent time on the grassy hill top surrounded by an oak Savannah. We had a view to the South East and enjoyed seeing the backside of Mt Pisgah. Carla had us posing for several pictures and Janet shared her amazing chocolate marion berry brownies - Yum! We continued the last part of the journey on community trails which ended at the top of Forrest Ridge Rd which connects the Mountain Gate and Thurston Hills neighborhoods. All piled into the three cars left earlier for the short journey to the trail head.
