Leaving Hendricks Park (at 720ft), we will walk city streets in the Laurel Hill valley to Moon Mt. Drive, Brackenfern Blvd. Pinerock Dr. and up and down Moon Mountain at 985 ft., an undeveloped park. There are a lot of up and downs, some hills are steep. The trail surface is uneven and could be slippery. We will explore the adjacent Coryell Ridge. Then we hike back the way we came.

Trip Report

Our hike started at Hendricks Park, down to Laurel Hill valley and then up to the undeveloped Moon Mountain Park It was disappointing to be in dense fog and not have any visual clues to our destination. After exploring Moon Mountain we followed unmarked trails to Coryell Ridge, part of the Ridgeline Trail system. On our way down the sun came out lifting our spirits as we had our first glimpse of the surrounding hills. Dave Cooper and Steve Adey used their phone apps to keep us moving in the right direction in the fog. Dorothy Van Winkle kept us walking on the correct side of the city streets. Even shrouded in fog, we all enjoyed exploring the new trails. The trip took 3 1/2 hours.
