Description:

This trip will involve exploring downtown Bend on foot (with an emphasis on its history), hiking 2 miles of the river trail, and visiting the High Desert Museum. The trip leader needs to refresh his knowledge of Bend, Oregon, in preparation for a Road Scholar trip. Participants are welcome to offer their knowledge of the city. If time and weather allow we might make a stop on the last day to learn about the Big Eddy rapids. Our accommodation will be 1 night in a hotel. We will be walking up to 5 miles per day.

SCHEDULE:
Tuesday, March 26
Depart Eugene and drive to Bend. We will explore the downtown area, shops, eateries. In the late afternoon, we will check into our hotel then hike the 2-mile trail near the hotel. F dinner, enjoy eating at a restaurant in old town. There will be free time that evening to continue seeing the town or enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Wednesday, March 27
In the morning we'll scout out a few more places in downtown Bend and possibly stop by Bend's history center. In the early afternoon, we'll visit the High Desert Museum and if time/weather allows we'll visit the area near Sunriver on the Deschutes called the Big Eddy. We should return to Eugene by dinner time.

DEPARTURE INFO:
Our group will depart from Eugene on Tuesday, March 26th at 8:30 am. The exact address will be sent to the trip participants closer to the departure date. Street parking will be available for people who leave their cars.

GEAR:
Be prepared for rain and cooler temps. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring money for food and beverages.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
We will stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Bend. The trip leader will provide information about how you can reserve with the hotel to get a group rate. Participants are responsible for making their own hotel reservations. RESERVATIONS AT THE HOTEL NEED TO BE MADE BY MARCH 8th. After that day the special rate is based on availability at the hotel. Cancellations can be made up to 48 hours before arrival. The hotel is close to the river trail and a 15-minute walk from downtown.
COSTS:
The group rate is $129 per room. Each room has two queen beds and includes breakfast, wifi, use of the pool, and parking. This price does not include a 12% tax. If you wish to share with another participant consider splitting the cost.
