Trip Report

At 7:30 we started up Trail 7 to intersect with the shady Trail 4 and the main trail. I thought that Carla had fallen near the unofficial trail to Electric Hill. but she was kneeling to take a photo of a lone phantom orchid. I was the last one to reach the top around 8:41 and quickly announced that the moon was rising over Diamond Peak. The timing was perfect! It was fun to share the moonrise and to the the rabbit profile with Dave and Carla's granddaughter, Lauren. We quickly started down after the 8:57 sunset to have enough light to avoid the deep ruts on the main trail. Another treat for Lauren was the sighting of a deer along the trail. Thanks to Rick Ahrens we knew to look for Jupiter—about half way down turned around to see the glow of the moon and Jupiter through the trees. A pleasant evening for all!
