Description:

Departure location: Pisgah Public Market parking lot in Pleasant Hill - 35851 Hwy 58. Take the Oakridge exit off of I-5. After 4 miles watch for the Mall on your left right after the 76 gas station. Park in the middle of the parking lot by the light pole.
The old Weyerhaeuser haul road starts in Thurston and goes all the way along Fall Creek to National Forest. For this hike we will do the section between Wallace Creek Rd and Hill Creek Rd. It's a one lane logging road not used anymore by logging trucks but by walkers, runners and bicycles. This part is mostly paved. We will have forest and rock outcrops on one side and a lovely view of the valley between Jasper and Lowell on the other side. Near the beginning of our journey we will stop at a Wallace Pioneer Cemetery dated from 1853-1858.

Trip Report

We had a warm lovely spring day to get outside. The old haul road had many trees down but it was very easy to walk around them. We spent a bit of time in the Wallace Family Cemetary with many tomb stones dated in the late 1800's. All in all it was a wonderful afternoon.
