Here's a chance to see some serious trail clearing work. The lower elevation trails along Hwy 58 have so may trees down that sometimes the trail can't be seen. But here's a spot to walk through a freshly cleared trail. Obsidians Mike Smith, Larry Dunlap, and myself spent time on the crews that did this work. Hopefully, I can describe what was in the now clear path. (I'll have a few pictures). We will be able to park at the Forest Service Center parking lot and start our hike from there. If people are interested in seeing some of the mess that remains, we might make a quick stop at the Hardesty Trails Area. As I understand it, you don't have to walk far before you see the problems the Forest Service and their volunteers are facing.
