Trip Report

It was an Oregon spring day with rain, flowing creeks, a plethora of wildflowers and two umbrellas. Calypso orchids were a quiet surprise waiting for us on the Incense Cedar Trail. On other trails we discovered wood violets, bleeding hearts, pink fawn lilies, trillium and one lone iris. Hillsides on the Jette Trail were blooming with 100s of fawn lilies and camas. The trail is named after George Jette, University of Oregon professor of landscape architecture, who in 1975 developed the arboretum master dream plan. We stopped at the rock dedicated to Rhoda Love, a botanist and the first arboretum employee in 1980.
