Trip Report

The king tides, the full moon, and an amazing ocean storm made for an enjoyable trip at Cape Lookout State Park on Oregon’s north coast. The trails on the Cape were often difficult in places because of many exposed tree roots. The long nine mile sand spit beach was passable during low tide. Our deluxe cabins provided warmth, camaraderie, comfort and homemade meals. On the way back some of us stopped to take the trail on Whalen Island, and to watch the ocean smash on the rocks causing the geyser-like “spouting horn” in Depoe Bay. After lunch at Local Ocean on Newport’s bayfront everyone was home by dark.
