  • End date: 06/22/2019

  • End time: 11:59 PM

Description:

There are profusions of various wildflowers on this hike and some views too. We will stop and admire them. We will not go to the top as described in Sullivan's book - there is no view there. Instead, we'll have lunch in the meadows where it is considerably more interesting and beauteous. There is a steep drop off along part of the trail, so you may want to bring hiking poles.

Trip Report

It was perfect weather with wildflowers at their peak, clear views of the Cascades and a great group of Obsidians wanting to learn the names of some of the flowers. Karen and I identified about 30 plants and had fun using Tanya Harvey's list to figure out a few more (how many of you have that list??). Lunch was in the biggest meadow admiring blue headed gilias, rosy plectritis, and Oregon sunshine. Mountain biking is becoming a big sport with 8-9 groups of polite bikers passing us or, in a couple of instances, waiting for us; next time, I will probably lead this hike during the week. Thanks Dave and Karen for driving.
