Description:

Meet in front of U of O Library steps (north side). We will walk around the campus taking note of some of our favorite outside ornamentation and sculptures.
We should finish the walk around 11:00. I'll have passes for the Art Museum if you would like to visit when it opens at 11:00.

Trip Report

Our first stop was the new Opal Whiteley bronze statue installed in April on the east of the Knight Library. It was Ken's second hike and since he was not familiar with the campus, we did our best to show him the most interesting outside sculptures in an hour and a half. Where did we spend the most of the time? At Hayward Field watching a crane place a huge curved wooden beam (truncated Nike swoosh?) while the crew made the final push to align with the supporting steel structure. The Register Guard had a photo of the rising giant ribcage the next day.
