Description:

A less-strenuous version of Iron Mountain. Probably 4 miles and 1000. We will be starting at a higher trailhead which cuts off much of the elevation gain. This is listed as moderate but will be lead at an easy pace with rest stops as necessary. With good weather we should have good views of the big mountains and we should still have wildflowers. There is the option to add a little extra and hike out toward Cone Peak if the group would like.

Trip Report

Views from Diamond Peak to Mt Reiner. It was a clear and warm with a slight breeze. We had better wildflowers then I exspected. Not the meadows full of delphiniums but the blue of flax’s and purple of mountain aster. We still had paint brush, buckwheats and many unidentifiable yellow flowers. We had lunch on the viewing platform at the top. When we returned to the junction with the Cone Peak trail we decided to continue on down the more shaded trail for a little more mileage.
