Description:

This hike is open to veterans and non-veterans so come on out and show your support for those who have served our country. We will take a moment to recognize any veterans who will be hiking with us. We will hike the river trail going west, cross the Greenway foot bridge to the Valley River Mall side, then continue west & north and cross the Owasso foot bridge, and continue back to the starting point. We will stop briefly at the Lane County Veterans Memorial to pay our respects to those local veterans who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. The hiking path is paved so this hike will happen regardless of the weather conditions. The hike should take between 2.5 to 3 hours to complete while hiking at a moderate pace.

Trip Report

We had a wonderful turnout of 22 Obsidian participants this Veterans Day to hike the river trail, including a stop at the Lane County Veterans Memorial Wall to honor those local veterans who died in service to our country. Five Obsidian participants on this hike are veterans: Mike Smith - Navy; Michael Bean - Army; Tom Rundle - Marines; Holger Krentz - Air Force; David Lodeesen - Army. The day was cool and overcast but the Fall colors were still lingering. Many participants got a chance to meet and chat with other members that they had never met before. I think we've started a new tradition for the club as this was the 4th consecutive Veterans Day hike we've completed. Hope to see you all again next year.
