This is not my usual flexible sunset hike–It takes two hours at a moderate space to get to the top!! We will take Trail 17 to Trail 4 DOWN to Trail 2 and then up 800 ft elevation on the east side. Sunset is 8:58pm.
The parking lot will be crowded. Look for us by my car, two rows down from the fee box. . Our goal is to view the rays of the sunset shining through the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal. Trip Report

We met only two hikers on our two hour trek on Trail 4 and 2 to the summit. Even though it was cloudy and we thought it wouldn't matter if we were late for the sunset, I asked everyone to pick up our pace the last 800 ft of elevation. It was a surprise on top to see that we were actually early and that the sun was successfully shining on the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal. The other surprise was that were so few people celebrating— basically just the other Obsidian group led by Gwyneth Iredale. It was a quiet scene for viewing, conversations, and photos. We were back down at our cars before dark.
