Description:

A hike that starts 10 miles south of Florence. We start in a forest that opens to a trail out on the dunes and ends at the beach. We walk along the beach for about a mile, return to the dunes, and back into the forest. We get a peek at the south end of Three Mile Lake.

Participants will manage their own transportation. Obsidian protocols for social distancing will be observed on the hike/ride. Refer to main website page for information.

Trip Report

Great group and a good day at the beach. Weather was perfect. A few of us spotted an immature bald eagle making his way north flying just over the breaking waves. I thought 3 Mile Lake would have little water at the north end but it was full. Past several groups on the trail but was surprised at the appropriate mask and trail behavior demonstrated by everyone. The one warning I would give to leaders is parking at trailheads on the coast. It was packed when we arrived. I was able to put 2 cars behind me and 1 just a little on the grass. When we got back at 2pm there were even more cars parked any place they could squeeze in. First time I’ve seen a forest truck checking for passes.
