Mt Pisgah Sunset/Moonrise

Description:

This is not my usual flexible sunset hike–It takes two hours and 15 minutes at a moderate space to get to the top!! We will take Trail 17 to Trail 4 DOWN to Trail 2 and then up 800 ft elevation on the east side. Sunset is 8:34pm. Moonrise is 8:29pm.

Trip Report

We headed up Trail 7 at 6:15 pm and two hours later, we were on top—15 minutes earlier than the leader estimated. The shady back trails (#4 and #2) were a welcome relief from the heat. We greeted the other Obsidian group as they reached the top —if we recognized the hiker wearing a face covering. The colorful sunset at 8:34 and moonrise at 8:29 kept us looking back and forth. It was hard to spot the white moon when it first appeared over the foothills. With rave reviews of the two celestial events, we headed down the main trail to our cars.
