Description:

This is a short hike to the top of Pisgah where we will celebrate the Blue Moon one day early! It will take approximately 45 minutes at a moderate space to get to the top. The timing is good for us to see both if weather cooperates. The sunset is 6:04 and moonrise is 6:04. Going up we will take Trail 17 to Trail 4 to Trail 1 and may see the longer hike group at the top. Coming down after sunset we will take Trail 1. Look for us by my car, one or two rows down from the fee box.

Trip Report

In preparation for the October 31 blue moon the group reviewed some trivia, including the definition of a blue moon and that the October moon is also known as the Hunter's moon. The last time a blue moon was seen across the country on Halloween night was 1944 and the next time Halloween and a blue moon coincide will not be until 2039. But, we did not get a preview of the moon tonight due to overcast skies. Despite the clouds we had a nice hike, saw other Obsidian hikers and briefly listened to the song "Blue Moon" by The Marcels!
