Description:

Usually this is a snowshoe trip. But I think it might make a nice hike for those who do not enjoy winter trips. We park at Salt Creek trail head. The trail above Salt Creek follows along the canyon passing some nice view points and passes a large waterfall before turning back toward the trailhead. LCC closed to pubic. See new meeting place above.

Trip Report

37 degree morning at the Amazon Center. Picked up 2 participants in Pleasant Hill. So of we go up the hill. First thing I notice is the wind and how the trees are swinging around. Great clear sunny day. 35 degrees before we pass through the tunnel. 29 degrees coming out of the tunnel and 27 degrees at the Salt Creek trailhead. Everyone is thinking about what they did and did not bring with them. I for one threw my mittens and gloves out of my pack after a recent trip. So I put on a pair of latex gloves and we did a fairly fast 3 plus mile on beautiful trail with hundreds of rhododendrons that I had not seen before because they were under the snow. The views into the canyons were great. Berry Falls was running full and was beautiful in the sunlight. No stops for lunch. Short stop for pictures at the falls. As long as we kept moving we kept warm. No fees at trailhead. Bathrooms closed for season. No hunters.
