Description:

This is my favorite hike in the Willamette Pass vicinity because of the view at the top - in addition to Waldo Lake and the row of Cascade peaks, one can see several of the lakes on Cascade Lakes highway and the Taylor burn. It's fun to reach the first cinder cone peak, see the view, drop down and then hike to the 2nd peak for lunch. This hike is described in Sullivan's Central Cascades book.

Participants will make their own transportation arrangements. Pl read the covid-19 Obsidian rules on our home page, including when to wear a mask.

Trip Report

What a glorious day! The weather was perfect for hiking and admiring the distant mountains and lakes. Surprisingly, 2/3 of the participants had never hiked the Twins. It's my favorite hike in the Willamette National Forest because not only does one see the Cascade Range, but we could also see the lakes along Cascade Lakes highway as well as Waldo and Charlton Lakes. We lingered over lunch and then descended down the steep back side (more interesting views) to make a "lollipop" loop before re-joining the main trail. What a wonderful, congenial group sharing a fun autumn hike!
