Description:

This will be the 9th New Year’s Day Spencer Butte hike. Because of COVID, our group will have an early start time and will start at a different trailhead. If weather conditions like ice are a problem, we can choose an alternative like the Rexius Trail. Be sure to read the COVID guidelines. Registered guests are welcome. Some will start hiking earlier than 8:00 so that we are spread out on the trail. If you haven't hiked the Butte from Martin Street, email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net

Trip Report

This was the 9th annual New Years Day hike with our group departing at Martin Street at 8:00 while Mike Smith's group left at 8:30 from Willamette 52nd Street trailhead. While we had available space on top, I quickly passed out the signs for Darko to take the annual New Year photo. Perhaps because of the rain forecasted later in the day, the cancelation of the Rose Parade or COVID, we met more hikers than usual on the way down. Even though we weren't able to share snacks or toast in the new year, it was a joyful social distanced gathering.
