Description:

UPDATED DESCRIPTION: Meet/ Check in at the gate by the fee box and then start up. I'll be there fifteen minutes earlier in case you want or need more time to hike to the top. Sunrise is at 7:15am. We will take the main trail (1 1/2 miles) to the summit to view the sunrise. After sunrise there are several options: Hike down with Lana directly to the parking lot. I and perhaps another hiker will lead the longer route down trail 2 to intersect Trail 4 and start back up. If you decide to do something on your own, let Lana or me know.

I doubt if I would do this but if the weather forecast is not favorable, I will email everyone the day before and change the start time to 8:00am and with a new route description.

Trip Report

Standing in the dark in the rain at the trailhead gate collecting trip fees, I wondered why I thought it would be a good idea to schedule a 6:25 am sunrise hike to celebrate the spring equinox. Fortunately the rain stopped by the time we reached the summit. Although we didn't have a celestial viewing, we were glad we had set our alarms for 5:00 so we could share the start of new season and the treats provided by Karen and Vickie. Nine started down with Lana to take a shorter route back to the cars. Jonathan charged ahead with six of us on the light brigade taking the longer route that we completed at 9:30. We did see blue sky and a plethora of spring wildflowers.
