Trip Report

Nine early rising folks left the Martin Street trailhead under clear skies and a beautiful half moon. Hiking briskly, we arrived to the top of Mt. Baldy in plenty of time to watch the pink spread across the sky as sunrise approached. When the sun popped up above the Cascade foothills there was a collective appreciation for our good fortune to observe the arrival of morning while much of Eugene slept. On the way back down we took "John's trail" to experience the teeter-totter crossing and observed many spring wildflowers: Calypso orchids, Trillium, Fawn Lily, Spring Beauty, Iris and Hounds Tongue. Near the cars we observed a flock of wild turkeys who traded "gobbles" with Darko. Our departure was delayed as we watched a Tom Turkey giving a female turkey an Ashiatsu massage.
