Trip Report

Hikes and games were the themes for this beach weekend in Yachats. We carpooled to Scott’s, meeting Friday at 2 pm. After a short hike to town through the neighborhood stopping at tiny Ocean View Park, we enjoyed a potluck dinner back at Scott’s. Afterwards we hiked to the enchanting Gerdemann Botanical Garden on the Ya’Xaik Trail. On this public footpath, we saw rare species in this unique preserve. A stunning sunset, parlor games (Scott’s penny trick, for one) and a jigsaw puzzle entertained us superbly until bedtime. On Saturday and with perfect weather, the group took the Lincoln County Transit bus to Waldport to begin our beach hike (approximately seven miles) back to Scott’s. Surf was high for great ocean viewing that afternoon and evening! Two more hikes—to Saturday’s dinner at the Drift Inn and on the Hobbit Trail Sunday morning—rounded out our relaxing and refreshing oceanfront extended trip.
