Description:

This is a hike to Camp Lake as described in Sullivan's Central Cascades book. This is a long hike through a 2012 burn area before reaching the beautiful Camp lake nestled between the South and Middle Sisters. Last year the higher elevations were mostly covered with snow making the hike even more of a challenge however I think this is one of the most scenic sections of the Three Sisters Wilderness. If the snow has melted around the lake I might go for a swim. If you'd like to join me, bring water shoes. After the hike we'll stop for dinner in Sisters.

Trip Report

Camp Lake isn't easy to get to. We drove 108 miles to get to the trailhead, 10 miles of it over a washboard covered gravel road. The trail to Camp Lake is over 7 miles and an almost 2000 foot gain. The first 4 miles is through the 2012 Pole Creek burn area making for a very hot dusty trail. The payoff for all this work is a rewarding visit to one of the most scenic lakes in Oregon. Camp Lake is nestled between the South and Middle Sisters and it's sand covered lake bed and crystal clear water make it one of the best swimming lakes around. Eight of our group of twelve went for a refreshing swim before heading back to our vehicles and then driving to Sisters for a very relaxing dinner at Takoda's restaurant.
