Description:

Visit 3 of Eugene's locally-owned book stores on this 5-mile loop walk. At each bookstore, we will browse for about half an hour. Restroom stops will be included. Bring your sun hat, water, and a small daypack to carry any water/books that you buy. Please allow for flexibility in the schedule. We will start at 1 pm, the plan is to be finished by 4:30 pm, no later than 5 pm. Browsing times are being kept to 30 minutes to observe Covid rules at various stores. Note: we will not be visiting Black Sun on this trip as they are closed to in-person visits due to Covid

1:00 - Depart Amazon Community Center parking lot, walk 2 miles on the walking path to Pearl St.
1:45 - Arrive J.Michael Books (160 E Broadway)
2:15 - Depart J. Michaels, walk .5 miles to Smith Family (bathroom stop at Graduate Hotel as needed)
2:30 - Arrive Smith Family Books
3:00 - Depart Smith Family, walk 1.6 miles to Tsunami Books
3:45 - Arrive Tsunami Books
4:15 - Depart Tsunami; walk .5 miles to Amazon Parking Lot

Trip Report

After 15 months of businesses having reduced in-person visits due to Covid-19 safety measures, it was good to go for a walk to re-discover 3 locally-owned independent bookstores in Eugene. Our group walked from Amazon Park to J. Michaels Books, Smith Family Books, and lopping back to Tsunami Books. A fourth bookstore was still closed to in-person visits, we will get this on the next trip. We visited a local tea house before wrapping up the day. At least 10 books were purchased between the 3 locations.
