Description:

Meet at 13th Avenue - south of Lillis complex (this is close to 13th and Kincaid) Steve Mital, UO Sustainability Director will join us to tour some of the UO sustainability activities. We will walk and talk for the first 90 minutes reviewing some of their efforts including the Peacehealth Rides bikes, recycling infrastructure, nurse logs, and their pollinator support program. Steve will also mention some of the teaching and ongoing research pertaining to sustainability. We will then spend about 30 minutes and tour a couple of the various stormwater management systems the UO has put into place.

Trip Report

The Conservation, Science and Education committee arranged for 14 Obsidians to be one of the first groups privy to the UO's new sustainability tour. Steve Mital, UO Sustainability Director, provided insight into several current sustainability efforts pursed by university students, faculty, and staff. We learned about UO commuting strategies, recycling efforts, stormwater protection, water conservation and energy saving efforts. We also learned that this is the first of a series of three tours created to showcase UO sustainability efforts. Plans are already in the works for taking the additional two tours!
