Description:

In this free online Zoom presentation, Hannah Alverson, Fire Ecologist with the Bureau of Land Management in Salmon, ID will discuss the importance of whitebark pine as a keystone species in high elevation ecosystems. She will address how climate change exacerbates current threats to the species including wildfire, white pine blister rust, and mountain pine beetle. In addition, she will describe what land managers are doing to restore whitebark pine. Hosted by Obsidian Angie Ruzicka. Instructions, including the line for the Zoom meeting will be sent by e-mail to all participants by Sunday evening October 17th. Questions may be directed to scied@obsidians.org

Trip Report

Folks enjoyed Hannah's Zoom presentation about white bark pine in Idaho. The suggestion was made that for future Zoom meetings the session starts 30 minutes early so folks can socialize.
