Goodman Cr to Eagles Rest

Description:

We will park at the Hardesty Mountain Trailhead along highway 58, near milepost 20. We'll follow the Goodman Creek Trail for 2 miles and will see a waterfall and log bridge. Continuing up the trail includes ferns, moss and trees along the stream. At 4 miles the trail crosses a road and continues for 1.7 miles to Ash Swale Shelter. Further uphill for a mile takes us to Eagles Rest with a view of the Lost Creek Valley. We can have lunch at Eagles Rest and enjoy a downhill return to the trailhead.

Trip Report

What a flawless day. The rain held off until after the hike. The trail had mud, but not excessive. The ground was covered with fallen leaves, mostly big leaf maple. The log bridge crossing Goodman Creek definitely has shifted over the years, but is still sturdy. This hike follows Goodman Creek, climbs a bit, goes through second growth Douglas fir and a mix of cedars, hemlocks, maples and alders. Ash Swale Shelter is next to a marsh. Lunch at the top of Eagles Rest provided a view of the Lost Creek drainage and many nearby mountains. A pair of grouse flew out of the brush twice, going up and coming back. Esme, Lynn, Harold and I enjoyed this 13.4 mile outing.
