Description:

For National Trails Day we are going to switch gears from beautification to general maintenance. We will work to maintain the Main Trail by cleaning the summit steps and clearing drainage ditches and culverts.

Meet at the main Spencer Butte Trailhead parking lot, the paved lot on Willamette.

Trip Report

For our first Saturday morning outing of our winter schedule we met Evan Gammon of the City to work on National Public Lands Day. Our projects were to prepare the Main Trail for fall. We grabbed an assortment of tools and hiked up the butte to begin our work. We used garden hoes to scrape and loosen the gravel and grit from the summit steps. To finish cleaning the summit steps we blew to gravel and grit off with a backpack leafblower. After cleaning the steps we used Terra Hoes to quickly and lightly clean the drainage ditches and outflows as we worked our way back to the main trailhead.

Special thanks go to Clara for once again immaculately cleaning the trailhead steps and cutting back blackberries from around the parking lot.

At the parking lot we all took a well deserved break with chocolate zucchini bread, cookies, and juice.
