Trip Report

From dramatically nested Fishing Rock we hiked north on low laying beach lined with fast eroding sand cliffs. The sand was mostly soft, so effort was much greater than usual beach walk. We passed along the dozens of cliffs perched houses and some serious eroded banks, arriving to the top of mostly sunny Salishan Spit right on noon. After brief lunch overviewing Siletz Bay, we hiked east side of Salishan Spit, along the Siletz River and then back on beach, rushing back on the narrow beach in front of swiftly returning tide. That was 12.5 very fast sandy miles.
Most of the participants decided to spend the night in Lincoln City. It was a great day with the friends.
