“Weekend Warrior” Hike

Weekend-warrior definition · One who enthusiastically engages in a physical, sometimes strenuous, activity only on weekends outside of regular employment.

Join us for nearby hikes short enough to get some good exercise yet that don't take up the whole day. Designed especially for, but not limited to, those who work weekdays, enjoy the outdoors, good conversation and might want the option of coffee/tea after the hike is over.

This hike is a loop from the Martin Street trailhead in South Eugene at the Amazon Creek headwaters to the top of Mt. Baldy for spectacular views. We'll go up a steep part under the power lines, then through the woods as we ascend towards Dillard Road, crossing the street to loop around the Baldy Summit, and descend down the trail under the power lines.

Trip Report

Our group of 14 gathered to stretch a bit before a setting off on what may be the Obsidian's inaugural "Weekend Warrior" hike. Weekend warriors are hikers that often over extend themselves on weekends, since they are too busy to keep in shape during the week.

We set off from the Martin trailhead to hike the trail south of the powerlines, which was springtime-muddy with trillium, fawn lillies and other flowers. On up the east side of Mt. Baldy to a foggy view at the top, noting the extensivley cleared bushes and small trees on trail sides as we descended down the stairs and back down to Marin under the power lines.

It was a quick hike - about 3.1 miles - and some of us chose to enjoy warm drinks at Hideaway afterwards. Plans are to set close-in, under 6 mile hikes that provide more opportunities and attract those who prefer to hike on weekends due to busy schedules. PS - next time I'll remember to set a limit on the number of hikers and trust long-time Obsidians on the mileage, vs AllTrails ;-)
