Description:

Special Outreach project. Through Travel Lane County we'll accompany members of a Pacific Source group on the trails of Buford Park and the Arboretum. Some of this group might want to go to the top and other just a wander through the Arboretum.

Some of the people will be from the Eugene/Springfield area and we can encourage them to check out more of our activities. We also want to make a connection to Travel Lane County. Since we know that many new members people in transition (like moving to our area) we should become an organization the Travel Lane County suggests to newcomers.

Trip Report

The weather was turning toward the miserable side but when the big van of people for Pacific Source arrived the rain had stopped. We enjoyed fair weather during their time with us. We end up only having eight visitors for our hikes. We explained that there are 24 miles of trails to choose from at Burford Park/ Mt. Pisgah and asked how many wanted to go to the top. That quickly split the group into the summit seekers and the lowlanders. Two Obsidians worked to keep up with those going to the top. Age range may have made the difference. The other group spent their time along the river and going through the many arboretum trails.

While the numbers were less than expect, we had a good time visiting with the Pacific Source group. It was fun to share what what our local area has to offer. Pointing out the views from the summit or admiring the camas in bloom reminds us of what a special area we have at our doorstep.
