Description:

This is a spectacular hike on the Washington side with views of the Columbia River and Gorge most of the way. The trail is very steep in spots and there are a dozen or so loose rock fall areas where the footing is difficult. Sturdy shoes and at least one walking stick are required. The trailhead & small parking lot are 1/4 mile past the village of Lyle, WA on Rte. 14.

Trip Report

Three of us made this hike on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. We were on the trail at 10:20 am. After about ¼ mile, we broke out into the open for almost all of the rest of the way, with grand views of the mighty Columbia east and west, watching barges and wind-surfers on the river, and trains on both the Oregon and Washington tracks. I’ve done 20 hikes in the gorge including both sides of the river, and this one is my favorite!
