Description:

This lovely hike will start at a trailhead about 20 miles up Salmon Creek Road near Oakridge. The trail takes us through magnificent old growth trees along Black Creek. Lillian Falls is 1.3 miles and has a series of cascades. The trail climbs past the falls, across a stream and on to the western shore of Waldo Lake. Trekking to the right along the shore, the relics of a failed tunnel project can be seen.
After returning to the vehicles those who like can make a short hike to see the Joe Goddard Nature Trail, another 1.6 miles

Trip Report

This was a glorious day hiking through old growth, wildflowers and catching an occasional glimpse of roaring Black Creek in the canyon. Lillian Falls charmed us with its multiple cascades. Then the climb continued upward with rhodies and bear grass to enjoy. The final climb took us to the western shore of Waldo Lake for lunch. We could see the the remains of the Klovdahl tunnel, a failed attempt in 1912 to divert water from Waldo Lake. The return trip downhill went quickly. The temps ranged from 62 to 88, but the shady trail was comfortable.
