Bridge and Bald Hill

Description:

We will park on the west edge of the OSU campus and meander along Arnold Way, through a covered bridge making our way to Bald Hill Park. At the park we will do a loop to the top and return to campus. Some folks may stop in Monroe for refreshments on the way home.

Trip Report

After a short drive to Corvallis our cheerful group of 10 walked along Campus Way between fields that are part of the OSU Research Farms. Big Leaf Maple and large Oak tress provided some shade. We stopped to admire the Irish Bend Covered Bridge that was relocated from the Irish Bend Slough near the Willamette River to campus in 1989. Continuing past the Benton County Fairgrounds we transitioned from a paved path to a trail in the woods and took a short snack break at a lovely Barn that offered shade and seating. Vicky provided both entertainment and delicious mini-mocha muffins that were appreciated by all! Fortified, we ascended around the North/Northwest side of the hill to the summit (755 feet). After a short lunch break we descended switchbacks on the the Southeast side and completed the lollipop route back to our cars.
