Mt Pisgah Winter Solstice

Description:

Look for us by my car a row or two down from the fee box. Sunset is 4:37. Current plan is take Trails 7,3, and 1 to the top. (Some may choose to take Trail 4)We will join a crowd of solstice hikers looking for the sun rays to light up the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal. The moonset is 2:56 pm. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions. If you do not have a Lane County pass allow time to purchase one with Debit/Credit card (no cash) at the pay station by trailhead.

Trip Report

It seemed possible that there could be a sunset with its rays shining through the Mt. Pisgah Sighting Pedestal slot. After all, it wasn’t raining! It was probably just as well the sun hid behind the clouds since another group surrounded the pedestal as if it were a picnic table with treats and beverages for a birthday celebration. It was festive gathering for all. The moon set at 2:56 pm but coming up December 2029, the full moon will occur one day before Winter Solstice. Thanks to Bob who led the hikers on Trail 4 while I continued with a smaller group up the main trail.
