Description:

Our 12th annual New Years Day hike will have groups departing from three trailheads, hopefully meeting on top for a photo but not impacting other hikers.

We will toast in the New Year and perhaps share a few snacks. Watch for updates if we need to adjust the route or cancel or substitute if there is ice on the steps.

Trip Report

Our annual New Year’s Day hike was a big success with groups departing from Martin, Willamette and Spencer Butte Trailheads. It was an overcast morning so there were only few other hikers making it easier us to mingle, share snacks, and gather for a photo op. Ane gave the toast encouraging all of us to participate in 2023 Obsidian activities. Several new members had not been on the Ridgeline Trail or summit. One asked “ What can you see from the top?” They will need to join us on a clear day! Another commented that we were such a friendly group! Thanks to everyone who shared snacks and just made it a piece of cake for the leaders, Mike Smith, Dave Cooper and Janet Jacobsen.
