Mt Pisgah Sunset/Moonrise

Description:

Look for us by my car a row or two down from the fee box. Sunset is 8:59 pm and moonrise is 7:52 pm. Current plan is to take Trails 7,3 and 1. Faster hikers usually include a section of Trail 4. Email me at jbjacobsen@comcast.net if you have questions. We probably will be hiking down after the moonrise. (Full Moon is July 3) If you don’t have a Lane County pass , please, please allow time to purchase one with Debit/Credit card (no cash) at the pay station by trailhead.

Trip Report

With our 6:50 start time and a warm ascent, we gathered in the shade to watch for the 7:52 moonrise over the foothills. Once I pointed out the faint white moon, it took some time for everyone to actually see it. We did not wait for the 8:59 sunset but headed down. I hope most were happy with our descent without headlamps. Perhaps some will hike up again for the full moon on July 3rd. A note from Dave Predeek about the purple flowers blooming:The purple harvest lilies are Brodiaea. The short plants appear in March and look like grass and are only 4 inches tall. They dry up in a couple of months. They bloom in June and have deep-purple flowers when all the grasses have turned yellow. They grow from small bulbs.
