Description:
Starting at the Pacific Crest Trailhead, the approach to Three Finger Jack starts slow, with a gentle gradient through dense Oregon forest. As we move beyond the treeline, the true challenge starts, a combination of class 3 and 4 scramble sections, with talus/scree slopes and exposed ridges requiring adept footwork. The most psychologically demanding part is "the crawl", a narrow and exposed ledge just beneath the summit, which requires a cautious traverse on a fixed line. After this is a short 5th class climb and plank walk to the top of the weathered volcanic plug of Three Finger Jack. This is a technical, fun alpine climb.
Please have prior experience on several other mountains.
