Description:

Meet at the trailhead 5004 Blanton Road where there are 8 parking spaces on the south side of road. I'll email directions and/or if we need to meet at the Blanton Ridge Trailhead and carpool the short distance to SEM. The tour will include the location of the proposed new 3 mile trail, the boundaries, and the 50 ft. easement along 52nd. See the front page of the June Bulletin for more information. Plan on 1 ½ hours. John Winquist, Eugene Parks Foundation Board member, will lead the tour.

Trip Report

Ten of us fit our five cars into the small trailhead parking lot where we met our guide John Winquist, Eugene Parks Foundation Board member(EPF). Along the trail by upland prairie, oak savannas and oak woodlands, John discussed and pointed out the locations of the proposed three mile trail, the park boundaries, the easements and the role of EPF. John Winquist has worked 20 plus years to implement his vision of connecting the trails to Iris Ridge. He is an inspiration for all of us who often say we are so fortunate to have the Ridgeline Trails. Dave Predeek shared how he was involved in the early days around 2008 when the city acquired the property to expand the Ridgeline Trail. It was a warm morning so the chilled marionberry muffin stop in the shade was welcomed until the yellow jackets joined us. See the May 2023 Bulletin front page article for more information. More tours are planned when the weather is cooler.
