Description:

This is one of the premier wildflower hikes in the Cascades and they are at peak! The pace will be moderate, but steady. We will go counterclockwise, starting on the Cone Peak Trail through alpine meadows, stopping to identify many of the flowers and admire the views. Then up the steep trail to the Iron Mountain platform for lunch. On a clear day, one can see all the major peaks from Mt Adams to Diamond Peak!

Trip Report

It was a great group, with two woman doing their very first hike with the Obsidians, and one doing her second! We did the loop counterclockwise, starting toward Cone Peak. It was a warm day to huff and puff on the steep ascent to Iron Mountain, but we were rewarded with views of all the major Cascade peaks during a leisurely lunch at the top. We were about a week late for prime wildflowers, but we still saw many varieties, including 3 of the rare Washington lilies in full bloom! A fabulous day!
