Trip Report

We heard Phyllis the Masonic Cemetery Groundhog (Marmota monax) whistle before Joanna spotted her peeking from behind a monument. It didn’t seem to bother her that we took so many photos. We certainly did not eat any of the blooming flowers making sure she would have enough food. After visiting the Thomas Condon monument, we headed up to the golf course and the Ribbon Trail to Hendricks Park. This was the first day that the park was open since the storm. It was surprise to meet the Altairs on their Friday walk. After persimmon bread treats, we wended our way out of the park. Ginny then guided us on some obscure streets and eventually for a glimpse of the University of Oregon President’s home. Ginny ‘s parents lived there where her father Robert Clark was President. It was such pleasant weather for our three-hour hike that was filled with curious exchanges and an unbelievable tall tale.
