Description:

With the ice storm wreaking havoc on the City last week there has also been damage in the Ridgeline Park system. We will work to clear the trail tread and corridor of small brush in advance of crews coming in to use chainsaws. We will also scout the trail documenting the number and placement of the trees that need to be chainsawed to better enable the sawyers to allocate themselves in the trail system.

Meet at the Willamette Street & 52nd Trailhead parking lot, the gravel lot on Willamette.

Trip Report

Our group of adventurous Obsidians met up at the Willamette and 52nd Trailhead parking lot to scout and remove storm debris from the Ridgeline Trail. We broke from our usual plan of hiking in and working our way out to working our way in and hiking our way out. We cut, drug, and threw numerous branches off of the trail. About half of our group raked storm debris from the trail. We also kept track of and measured the logs requiring a chainsaw to clear to report to the City and Scorpions. We made great time and started up the Tie Trail only to encounter a 3ft deep rootwad pit that removed the trail and a little farther along the largest tree at about 52in. Mari, Sandra, and Denise elected to continue onto the summit. The rest of our group hiked back to the trailhead for well earned cookies and juice. All in all we stepped over, crawled under, jumped, and walked around 14 logs each way.

Special thanks go to Janet for bringing persimmon bread and energy balls.
