West & Main Trail Raking & Brushing

Description:

Join us for our last, hopefully, response to the ice storm! We will hike a little up the West and Main trails to rake and pitch storm debris from the trail and trail sides. We will work from 9 to noon.

Meet at the main Spencer Butte Trailhead parking lot, the paved lot on Willamette.

Trip Report

We continued our work of raking and pitching storm debris from the trails. This time we focused on the West and Main trails. Our large group of volunteers made short work of clearing sticks and small fir boughs from the drainage ditches, outflows, and sides of the West Trail. We then hiked to the summit up the Main Trail assessing the work ahead of us. We worked our way back to the Main Trailhead clearing berming from the trail sides, ditches, and outflows. We also cut back storm debris and woody vegetation. Upon our return to the trailhead the parking lot was so full with people parking in non-parking spots that the most difficult tasks of the day were backing out of parking spots and getting out of the parking lot.
